linux dd

The 3ware raid card showed up yesterday and by using the ‘linux dd’ command line switch I was able to load the card drivers and install CentOS onto the raided hard drives.  It didn’t survive a ‘yum update’ so I had to reinstall the OS and then perform the update and then compile a custom kernel.  The latest kernel (v2.6.20) has support for the card builtin so the only config changes were the ATA over Ethernet and the JFS.

The 3ware card also came with a CLI program for monitoring the card so I am testing that out and it also has a daemon to provide web access which will be nice.
